Dr. Benedetto of EyeMD Associates,
PC is now in his 23rd year of private practice as an eye
surgeon. His primary interests are in the areas of laser
vision correction of nearsightedness,
farsightedness
and astigmatism,
and cataract
surgery. He was a resident surgeon at the nationally
renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and an associate
attending surgeon at Wills for 12 years following his residency
training.
Dr. Benedetto applies his years of expertise as an eye microsurgeon,
as well as time proven techniques and technology to achieve
optimum visual results from surgery for each individual.
His personal consultation with each laser vision correction
candidate not only helps to screen out unsuitable candidates
for refractive surgery but also helps to dispel false expectations
about the benefits
and risks of laser vision correction. The application
of modern diagnostic and treatment technology to produce
optimum visual results and a satisfied patient is the goal

Dr. Benedetto is approved to perform CustomVueT
LASIK from VISX Inc., the world leader in laser vision
correction. The technique was recently approved by the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration [June, 2003] and is now considered
the gold standard in laser vision correction. The CustomVueT
technique utilizes a waveprint of the optics of each individual's
eye to perform a custom LASIK laser vision correction for
each patient. Since no two eyes are alike, similar to fingerprints,
the correction for every eye is different. The application
of wavescans for the measurement of the eye's optical prescription
is many magnitudes more accurate than the conventional methods,
which have been used for the past 150 years. This increased
level of accuracy results in better visual acuity from LASIK
surgery than was previously attainable and in the partial
correction of optical aberrations, which most believe were
responsible for the night vision problems after LASIK surgery.
Dr. Benedetto utilizes third
generation microkeratomes for the creation of the LASIK
flap. His familiarity with his individual microkeratome,
gained from analysis of every case he has performed, helps
to allay patient fears of microkeratomes. For those interested,
he counsels patients on the benefits and disadvantages of
the Intralase "all laser LASIK" procedure as an alternative
to the microkeratome.
